August is a strange time of the year. The usual pattern of life is very definitely missing as people come and go over the next few weeks. More than anything, over the month, I find I really miss the gathering of all the friends and family of Church on a Sunday and through the week. Yes the weeks are quieter, but I enjoy the buzz of life and activity and possibility that the people together bring. Sometime I feel like I’m holding my breath until September and the ‘abundance’ of life can begin again.

My usual perception of August were shot down this week. I knew lots of people were away so Sunday would be low key. Well I was wrong! Lots of people were away, but when I looked around our building was full of visitors from all over the place. There were people from overseas, local people, some were Christians and some were not and it left me feeling like a visiting speaker in my own church. The point is there was a real sense of God’s presence and a unity between the people attending. We were right in the middle of God’s plan and I had almost allowed myself to think God was going to be on holiday too.

I think we can look forward to all that God is going to do over the summer. I’m going to take some time out to consider the coming months from  September, but I’m still expecting God to be on the move right now. Perhaps you were like me and thinking down time, but why not shift your thinking and connect with the people still around, give some time to God and re-catch a vision for the months ahead. God won’t be on holiday this month He’ll be ready to work with you and through you if you are in Barnsley, Blackpool or the Bahamas, at work or on holiday.

Enjoy your holiday if you’re having one, but don’t holiday from Father God.
